Removing parts from the build platform is one of the most arduous parts of the SLA printing workflow. It often requires high skill, large amounts of force, and sharp tools to completely clean a build platform. The team set out to make the process safer, easier, and quicker. We accomplished this goal by using a flexible stainless steel sheet as the build surface (magnetically retained), with handles for flexing the sheet to effectively delaminate parts. I worked on mapping user workflows, refining the details of the actuation (alignment rods in ramped troughs), defining the UX through handle design, modeling final forms, and specifying the CMF approach.
This product is used with liquid resin and cleaned with isopropyl alcohol so the form needed to avoid any tight interior edges that would be difficult to access by hand. I also used Rhino to achieve higher surfacing quality than could be achieved using our usual parametric design tools.
